Oh, hey, welcome! đź‘‹

Thanks for stopping by Crumbs in My Handbag, a monthly roundup of my delightful discoveries. These can include restaurants, beauty products, books, movies, experiences, and whatever else I think people might enjoy. Most of the focus will be on SF, where I live, but I’ll also share fun things I come across when I travel.

If you’re wondering who I am and why you should care about what I like, then take a couple minutes to read this true story of what it means to be Mary Z.

Many years ago, a group of friends and I went to Las Vegas for a girls weekend. We had dinner at the beautiful José Andrés restaurant, Bazaar Meat, where we ordered multiple bone-in wagyu ribeyes and ate until the zippers on our bodycon dresses were about to bust. As someone who hates food waste, I asked all our leftovers be boxed up and I carried it around more preciously than a Chanel bag. We made our way over to the club and as I approached the bouncer, he eyes my leftovers. “It’s steak,” I said matter-of-factly, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He was not amused and refused me entry into the club unless I gave up my steak. A normal person at this point might have obliged, but I am not normal and my love for steak is definitely not normal. “Please, I can’t. What should I do?” Sensing my desperation and not in the mood to see me cry, he suggested I check it at the front desk of the hotel. I then proceeded to leave my friends at the club, waving off their concerns, and walked as quickly as I could in my kitten heels to check my steak at the front desk. After a night of partying, I picked up my steak and we all enjoyed the very best late-night snack Vegas had to offer.

I’m older now so Vegas clubs will not be featured in this newsletter, but the takeaway from the story is my unwavering commitment and enthusiasm for the things I love and want to share (it’s the Capricorn stellium in me). If you’re at all curious to learn more, then please subscribe and start receiving my newsletters in your inbox. It’s free and you’ll only hear from me once a month. Thanks for reading!
